Accelerate
The state will require all new cars to run on electricity or hydrogen by the year 2035. Automakers are expected to accelerate the production of zero-emission vehicles.
Accelerate means to increase speed, like a moving car might do to pass a slower car. If something is accelerated, its development or progress is quickened.
