Welcome to English in a Minute!
A curve is an arc or a rounded line. But what could this mean?
Ahead of the Curve
Speaker A: Jonathan, remember last year when you laughed at me for making hats for my cat?
Speaker B: I didn’t just laugh. I also said I was worried about you.
Speaker A: Well, I was way ahead of the curve. Cat hats are selling online, right now, for a lot of money!
Speaker B: Of course they do.
If you are “ahead of the curve”, you are one of the first to do or think of something. Later, others catch up to you.
It can also mean to do something way before you need to.
And that’s English in a Minute!
