Welcome to English in a Minute!
Rage means extreme anger. Uh-oh. Is Anna mad at Jonathan?
All the Rage
Speaker A: Anna, what exactly are you eating?
Speaker B: Bread.
Speaker A: That does not look like bread.
Speaker B: Well, it’s bread that you make in the microwave. It’s all the rage on Tiktok.
Speaker A: But you’re so good at baking bread.
Speaker B: You’re right, Jonathan.
In this case, rage has nothing to do with anger. If something is “all the rage”, it is hugely popular for a short period of time. A new dance, a clothing style, or even microwaved bread, can be all the rage.
And that’s English in a Minute!
