Welcome to the Voice of America’s New Words.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in May that he will return as many as one million Syrian refugees to their country.
Animosity
There is growing public animosity towards Syrian refugees in the country. The situation is politically damaging for Erdogan. But critics are also denouncing his plan to send the Syrians home.
Animosity is a strong feeling of dislike, such as hatred. It can often be substituted for the word hostility. Animosity is an emotion most people want to avoid as much as possible.
