An agreement between Ukraine and Russia to permit shipments from the Black Sea has opened grain supplies to the world.
Avert
The deal was reached last month with the help of Turkey and the United Nations. Ukraine and Russia are important global wheat exporters. The aim of the deal is to avert a global food crisis that was worsened by the Russia’s war on Ukraine.
The verb avert means to prevent or avoid something bad. The expression “avert your eyes” is often heard when something ugly presents itself.
