Welcome to English in a Minute!
Biting and chewing are things we do when we eat. So, what could this mean?
Bite Off More Than You Can Chew
Speaker A: Jonathan, how was your European vacation?
Speaker B: Very tiring. I don’t think visiting 10 countries in 10 days was the best idea.
Speaker A: Sounds like you bit off more than you could chew, my friend.
Speaker B: Yeah, I would definitely not recommend it.
If you take a huge bite of food, it’s hard to chew. In life, if you bite off more than you can chew, you try to do too much. It usually doesn’t go well. And it’s not a pleasant feeling – while eating or while traveling.
And that’s English in a minute!
