Welcome to the Voice of America’s News Words.
Rain and melting ice rivers have caused severe flooding in Pakistan.
Epic
The heavy rain and flooding across the country since June have caused thousands of deaths and forced many more people from their homes. Pakistan’s minister for climate change described the condition as an epic humanitarian disaster.
The adjective “epic” means much more than usual, especially in size or reach. Epic is usually used to describe long, complex and important stories about extraordinary experiences.
