The economic downfall is causing losses of electricity, rising costs, and a shortaage of fuel and medicines. The government is under pressure to resign. In the first fatal clash with protesters, police shot dead a protester and wounded dozens of others.
Fatal descibes something that is deadly or able to cause death. Fatal can also describe something, like a mistake, that leads to failure or disaster.
