Good day to all of you, my good friends! I am Athena and today, I will show you to a historical site that bore witness to war and struggle here in the Philippines. Without further ado, let’s begin our journey to Fort Santiago.
Fort Santiago is located in Intramuros, Manila. It was a fortress that was built by the Spanish government during the colonization of Manila in the late 1500s. Back then, it was used as a storage for ammunition, and was converted into a prison for the activists and political resistance. Dr. Jose Rizal, the country’s national hero, was also imprisoned here before his execution. As a dedication to his lifework, Rizal Shrine was built inside Fort Santiago.
Now, Fort Santiago is open to everyone who wants to visit a place with rich historical importance.
