Welcome to English in a Minute!
The bottom is the lowest point of something. But what does it mean to get to the bottom of something? Let’s listen.
Get to the Bottom of It
Speaker A: Someone stole my muffins. Again.
Speaker B: Dan, we need to get to the bottom of this. Tell me the details.
Speaker A: A dozen muffins… out of the break room in less than 30 seconds.
Speaker B: Okay. I’ll start dusting for fingerprints.
Speaker A: And I’ll interview witnesses. We will get to the bottom of this.
Getting to the bottom of something means trying to solve a mystery or difficult question. I have a feeling that getting to the bottom of this muffin mystery may take those two some time.
And that’s English in a Minute!
