A material made from fish skin is helping to support families in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest.
Livelihood
Controlled fishing methods have increased the population of the giant pirarucu. The fish skin is sold to companies to make products like women’s bags. Those sales help provide a livelihood to hundreds of families in the Amazon.
A livelihood is a way of earning money in order to live. A livelihood provides access to life’ necessities such as water, food, shelter and clothing.
