Haitian officials say a group of mercenaries, made up of 26 Colombians and two Haitian Americans carried out the attack. Days later, Haitian police announced the arrest of Christian Sanon, who they say helped organize the action.
A mercenary is a soldier who takes part in military conflict for personal profit. A mercenary is an outsider to the conflict and not a member of an official military.
