Welcome to the Voice of America’s News Words.
Martin Cooper invented the world’s first mobile phone in 1973.
Optimist
Fifty years later, Cooper speaks of his hopes and worries about mobile technology. He worries about human dependence on the internet. But Cooper describes himself as an optimist. He hopes the technology will change human lives for the better, especially in education.
An optimist is someone who believes that good things will happen. They are hopeful about the future. The opposite of an optimist is a pessimist.
