Welcome to English in a Minute!
Our fingers are very useful. They help us do so much. But what do you think it means to point fingers at someone?
Speaker A: Anna, someone in the office coffee club complained about you.
Speaker B: What?! What did they say?
Speaker A: They said you drink way too much coffee.
Speaker B: Ahh! Who would say such a false, terrible thing about me?
Speaker A: I don’t want to point fingers, but it’s a man. In accounting. It’s Bob. Bob in accounting. He said it.
If you “point fingers” at someone, you accuse them of something. This idiom comes from actually pointing at someone to single them out. When we point fingers, it is usually about something small or not so serious.
