Welcome to English in a Minute from home!
What’s not to love about puppies? But what do you think this means as an idiom?
Puppy Love
Speaker A: Aww. Caty’s son went on his first date the other night. Isn’t it great when young people are in love?
Speaker B: Jonathan, I think it’s just puppy love. He’s only 13. I doubt it’s serious.
Speaker A: You don’t think they’re on the road to a lasting relationship?
Speaker B: Jonathan, he’ll probably have a new “girlfriend” by the weekend.
“Puppy love” refers to the strong feelings a person can have at the start of a relationship. It might seem like “puppy love” won’t last, but sometimes it does.
And that’s English in a Minute!
