Welcome to English in a Minute!
Sitting is a normal thing that we do. We sit at home, at work, at the restaurant. Honestly, we probably sit too much. But what does it mean to be “sitting pretty”?
Speaker A: Dan, how is your new apartment?
Speaker B: It’s great. It has the best views of D.C. And guess what? My book is selling really well.
Speaker A: Wow! You, Dan, you are really sitting pretty.
Speaker B: Sorry, Anna, it’s my publisher. How much money?
If you are “sitting pretty”, you are living in comfort. You are in a good place in your life. We can also use this to describe someone with a good chance at winning a competition.
